Large Christmas Display Props

Large Christmas displays need to work at a different scale from a typical home display. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores, offices, event venues and other commercial spaces often have higher ceilings, wider entrances, longer viewing distances and larger areas to decorate. The strongest displays usually combine a small number of high-impact pieces with repeated colours, lighting and decorations so the whole space feels coordinated.

Use this guide to plan the scale of your display, choose the right Christmas trees, garlands, wreaths, lights and oversized decorations, and build a festive scheme that customers and guests can appreciate from both close up and across a larger space.

Start with the size of the space

Before choosing products, measure the height, width and depth of the area you want to decorate. For entrances and reception areas, also consider door clearance, walkways and the space needed for customers, guests or staff to move around comfortably.

In a larger room, a decoration that looks substantial on a product page can appear much smaller once it is viewed from several metres away. Where the space allows, use one or two larger focal points first and then build the supporting display around them.

Choose the main focal point first

A commercial display is easier to coordinate when one feature leads the scheme. This may be a large artificial tree, an entrance arch, a pair of oversized wreaths, an illuminated outdoor figure or a statement prop.

How large should a commercial Christmas tree be?

Tree height should be chosen in proportion to the ceiling and the viewing distance. A 7–8ft tree can work well in a reception, restaurant or smaller retail environment, while 9–12ft trees create much more impact in larger entrance halls, hotel lobbies and high-ceilinged commercial spaces.

Always check the tree's full width as well as its height. Leave enough clearance above the tree for the topper and enough space around the base for safe circulation.

Use garlands and wreaths to connect large spaces

Garlands and wreaths are useful for carrying the same look through entrances, staircases, counters, balconies and reception areas. Repeating the same foliage style or light colour helps separate parts of a building feel like one coordinated Christmas scheme.

For longer runs, measure the full distance before ordering and allow for draping, turns and fixing points. Large wreaths can create strong focal points on wide walls, entrance doors and behind reception desks.

Plan Christmas lighting before the decorations

Lighting has a major effect on how a commercial display looks, particularly in larger spaces or locations that operate into the evening. Decide whether you want a warm traditional glow, a brighter illuminated feature or a combination of both before adding the smaller decorations.

When using multiple light sets, check the individual product's power source, cable colour, light colour, dimensions and connection information. For exterior displays, only use products where the individual product information confirms they are suitable for outdoor use.

Use oversized baubles, bows and hanging decorations at the right scale

Standard tree decorations can disappear visually on very large trees or when displayed high above eye level. Larger baubles, bows and hanging stars give the display stronger definition and can be repeated across trees, garlands, balconies and ceiling installations.

For large installations, repetition is usually more effective than using many unrelated designs. Choose a limited palette and repeat the same shapes or colours throughout the display.

How do I make a commercial Christmas display look coordinated?

Choose two or three main colours and repeat them through the tree, garlands, wreaths, lighting and hanging decorations. Metallic finishes such as gold or silver can help connect different product types without requiring every piece to match exactly.

For a stronger visual result, use larger decorations lower down and at key sightlines, then repeat smaller matching decorations through the rest of the display. This creates depth without making the space feel cluttered.

The wider Christmas Decorations collection can be used to add the smaller finishing pieces once the main commercial-scale elements are in place.

Consider entrances and customer-facing areas

Entrances, reception desks, staircases and shop windows are often the highest-value areas to decorate because they are seen by the greatest number of people. A strong entrance display can establish the Christmas theme before customers or guests enter the main space.

For entrances, consider a combination of an arch or large tree, garlands around the doorway, wreaths, warm lighting and one or two statement props. Make sure decorations do not obstruct doors, fire exits, signage, accessibility routes or customer circulation.

What should I check before ordering a large Christmas display?

Check the individual product's height, width, depth, weight, power source, cable length, indoor or outdoor suitability and delivery information. Large display pieces can require more space for transport, assembly and storage than standard Christmas decorations.

If a product needs to be positioned above floor level, suspended, fixed to a wall or used in a public-facing installation, make sure the fixing method and location are appropriate for the product and the building.

Plan for storage and reuse

For businesses that decorate every year, storage should be part of the buying decision. Large artificial trees, wreaths, props and oversized decorations can be reused for multiple seasons when they are dismantled carefully, kept dry and stored in suitable protective packaging.

Keeping decorations grouped by area or colour scheme can also make the following year's installation faster and easier to reproduce.

Commercial Christmas Display FAQs

What size Christmas tree suits a hotel lobby or commercial entrance?

Choose the tree according to the ceiling height, available floor space and viewing distance. A 7–8ft tree can suit receptions, restaurants and smaller retail spaces, while 9–12ft trees can create stronger impact in larger entrance halls and high-ceilinged lobbies. Always check the individual tree's full height and width before ordering.

Can businesses order multiple Christmas decorations or display pieces?

Yes, subject to current stock availability. If you need multiples of the same product or are coordinating several areas of a commercial display, email web@newlands.ie with the products and quantities you are considering.

Which Christmas decorations are suitable for outdoor commercial displays?

Only use a product outdoors when its individual product information confirms that it is suitable for outdoor use. Do not assume that an illuminated figure, wreath, garland or light set is outdoor suitable unless this is stated on the product page.

How early should a business order large Christmas decorations?

It is sensible to order as early as practical once your display requirements are known, particularly for larger products or when you need multiple units. Availability can change during the season, so for a larger project you can contact web@newlands.ie to check current quantities before ordering.
