The Weather Loach, also known as the Dojo Loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus), is a unique and intriguing freshwater fish, popular among aquarium enthusiasts for its distinctive behavior and appearance. Native to East Asia, this loach is known for its elongated, eel-like body and its ability to detect changes in barometric pressure, leading to increased activity before bad weather - hence the name "Weather Loach".

Origin:
The Weather Loach originates from streams, ponds, and rice fields in East Asia, specifically in areas of China, Korea, and Japan. It is valued in its native habitat for its role in controlling insect larvae and for its sensitivity to environmental changes.

Temperature:
The ideal temperature range for Weather Loaches is between 20°C and 25°C. They are quite adaptable and can tolerate a range of temperatures but should not be kept in overly warm conditions.

Water Quality:
These loaches prefer a pH between 6.0 and 8.0. They are tolerant of various water hardness levels but thrive in a soft to medium-hard water environment.

Aquarium Size:
A minimum tank size of 100 liters is recommended for Weather Loaches. They are active swimmers and appreciate ample space to move around. A tank with a soft substrate is ideal, as they like to burrow.

Feeding:
Weather Loaches are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods, including sinking pellets, flakes, live and frozen foods like bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter.

Lifespan:
With proper care, Weather Loaches can live for 10 years or more, showcasing their hardiness and longevity in a well-maintained aquarium.

Community Tank Compatibility:
They are peaceful fish and can be kept with other non-aggressive species. However, their tendency to burrow means they should not be housed with very small or delicate bottom-dwelling fish.

Breeding:
Breeding Weather Loaches in captivity is quite rare and challenging, as it usually requires specific environmental conditions that are difficult to replicate in a home aquarium.
