Phalaenopsis (moth orchids) grow well in centrally heated rooms and have long-lasting flowers produced all year round. They are one of the most popular indoor orchids. Plant Size - Pot size: 13cm Glass pot - 2 cascading stems - Actual height: 50-55cm Why We Love It - Thick-leaved plants with elegant, arching sprays of blooms - Fragrant flowers - Good beginner's orchid. - Easy maintance What To Know - Bloom Time: Spring- Summer - Position: Bright light but shaded from direct sunlight - Soil: Moist, bark-like potting media How to Care - Light: Make sure the light for your Phalaenopsis Orchid is as bright as possible without being in the hot, direct sun. - Temperature: The ideal temperature for Orchid is 60 to 75 degrees F (15-23°C) - Water Water your Phalaenopsis orchids early in the morning. This insures complete water evaporation on the foliage as well as the crown by nightfall. Water with rain, distilled, or reverse-osmosis water as the mix approaches dryness. Never use water that has been softened by a water softener - Fertilizer Any balanced orchid fertilizer can be used to fertilize your orchid. Feeding weakly (half strength) weekly works well. Once a month, use clear water to flush any accumulated salts from the potting mix - Humidity Use a shallow tray of pebbles filled with water to increase humidity around your plants. Be sure the pot does not sit in water as this will rot the roots. - Cutting the spike When the blooms are finished, you can cut the spike down to the level of the leaves and the plant will bloom with larger flowers and a strong stem within a year. You can also cut off the stem leaving two nodes (those little brown lines on the stem below where the flowers were) on the stem. One of these nodes will then initiate and generally produce flowers within eight to 12 weeks. - Continue watering and fertilizing while you are waiting for the blooming cycle to begin again! Repotting is usually done every one to three years.
