How to Care For Camellias

Camellias are one of the most popular spring flowering shrubs. They will give a wonderful splash of colour when little else is in flower. Although they requirre acid soil they are easily grown in containers of ericacious (acidc) potting compost.Camellias do really well in sheltered spots with a bit of shade. Although with plenty of watering they can be grown in full sun.

Feeding

They love free draining soil with plenty of Ericaceous (acidic) compost. Feed camellias in spring and early summer with acidic fertiliser like Sulphate of Iron.

Container Cultivation

Camellias are perfect for growing in a container. You can use Ericacious compost like John Innes ericaceous compost.

Pruning and Training

The best time to prune is immediately after flowering. Don't prune in summer or autumn as this is when they are forming new buds for next year
